In terms of the sunflower oil – it’s what dried fruit manufacturers use to coat the fruit so it doesn’t stick together. It’s a very small amount but we have no control over that. Please note that the clinical trial we did included these very products made with the exact same ingredients. We agree that minimizing processed oils is a great health choice, however, the minimal amount in our products should not have a significant impact on your health.
Answers from Dr. Klodas in regards to sunflower oil in our products:
Why do we use sunflower oil in our products? ---- it’s an integral and very minor component of some of the dried fruit – we don’t add any sunflower oil to our products
Is sunflower oil unhealthy? - no – has polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats (both heart healthy) and no saturated fat
Is sunflower oil better than olive oil? -- unsaturated fats (fats that are liquid at room temperature) are generally considered heart healthy. Olive oil is an integral component of the Mediterranean diet which has been shown over and over again to be conducive to heart health so may have an advantage
Is our sunflower oil cold pressed? – as a minor sub ingredient that is added by the dried fruit supplier, we have no control over this – I cannot vouch as to whether it is or isn’t
Is our sunflower oil high oleic – as a minor sub ingredient that is added by the dried fruit supplier we have no control over this – I cannot vouch as to whether it is or isn’t
