1. Enjoy two servings of Step One Foods per day. Use your Step One products as a substitution for something you would normally eat. Many of our customers enjoy Step One Foods for breakfast and an afternoon snack, but you can do what works best for you!

2. Eat the rest of your meals like normal. There are no other daily dietary or lifestyle changes needed to start seeing results.

3. Use Step One Foods twice per day for at least 30 days. You can see results after 30 days of consistent use! Continue to use the products up until your next cholesterol test.

4. Talk with your doctor. It's always best to coordinate care with your physician. If you’re currently taking statins or other medications, continue using them as normal.

How do I use the products? 

Dr. Klodas developed Step One Foods to be simple, convenient, and delicious. Simply use our products twice per day as a substitution for something you would normally eat. This typically represents breakfast and a snack for our customers, however, you can integrate the products in a way that fits your lifestyle. There are no other dietary or lifestyle changes required to start seeing results. Continue with your two servings of Step One Foods per day for at least 30 days. 

Do I need to stop my statin when I use Step One?

We never recommend that you stop a medication without speaking with your physician. Our foods were created to help lower cholesterol and improve cardiovascular health. So, over time, it's realistic to expect you will require, for example, lower doses of statin drugs to control your cholesterol readings. However, your doctor is in the best position to advise you regarding your medication regimen.

What else do I eat? 

Step One’s foods were created to make switching to a more whole-food plant-based eating approach easy and convenient. Our clinical trial participants saw cholesterol reduction in just 30 days by substituting two servings of Step One Foods for something they would normally eat. No other dietary or lifestyle changes are required to start seeing results. Will I lose weight? 

Many of our customers will experience weight loss while using Step One. Step One Foods are highly nutritious and very satisfying. Our foods are also meant to be used as a substitution for something you were eating before which typically represents a calorie reduction.

Where does the sugar and carbohydrate content come from in the products? 

Our products contain mostly naturally occurring sugar (like the sugar found in fruit). Sugar that is derived naturally from fruit is different because the whole fruit package also delivers fiber, vitamins, antioxidants and other phytonutrients). When sugar is consumed with whole food fiber (like that found in our products and in foods like fruits and vegetables) and complex, unprocessed carbohydrates (like the carbs in our products) the absorption of sugar is slowed which means insulin levels don't go up at much, leading to high HDL and lower LDL cholesterol.  Read more about the sugar in our products. 


All of the carbohydrates in our products are unprocessed complex carbohydrates (like whole grains and fruits). Our products do not contain processed simple carbohydrates. The carbs in our products allow our products to deliver the essential natural nutrients like fiber and antioxidants that make our products effective. Read more about carbohydrates. 


What if I don't have results with Step One Foods? 

Unfortunately, not everyone is a food responder. Step One Foods conducted a clinical trial to test our products and we found that About 2/3rds of people achieved clinically meaningful cholesterol reductions. This is actually similar to what is seen with most drug trials – about 1/3 of people don’t respond or even have an opposite response to a medication being tested. 


But what’s different about a drug non-response is that all you’re left with are potential side effects. With Step One, even if you don’t have a cholesterol response, all you get are potential side benefits. There is far more to heart health – and outcomes - than just cholesterol. For example, adding in 10 grams of whole food fiber per day (the amount present in 2 servings of Step One) reduces the risk of experiencing a heart event by 14% and the risk of dying from heart disease by 24%.
