Why Aren't Supplements Enough?

Americans spend about $30 billion per year on supplements — more than ever before — and yet the rates of chronic disease are higher than ever. If we’re spending so much to take such good care of ourselves, shouldn’t we expect better results?

The science behind chronic disease and the ineffectiveness of supplements is pretty conclusive. In fact, The Annals of Internal Medicine recently published three long-term scientific studies that concluded that dietary supplements are ineffective in preventing heart attacks or other chronic health issues[1].

Blueberries are more than just antioxidants and oranges are more than just vitamin C. Your body needs the whole food to reap all the benefits. Isolating the individual nutrient isn’t nearly as important as what Dr. David R. Jacobs, professor of epidemiology from the University of Minnesota, dubbed “food synergy.” Food synergy is all about how nutrients work together in the body.

Eating whole, real foods as close to their natural form as possible is the healthiest.  It’s the best way to ensure you get the exact mix of nutrients nature intended.
